The universality of customer service as a skill should not be doubted. Regardless of the type of business - online or offline - it's what keeps the world of business rotating. The simple fact is that customers are always going to have issues and problems that they are going to need you to solve-even when your product is perfect. It can be a little complicated to offer amazing customer service, especially online. When you can't speak to someone face-to-face, it can be complicated to work out whether or not you are addressing their problems adequately. Ask your customers what they desire. It's one issue to let a client share their frustrations for a bit in an email, via phone or through an instant message. It's something completely different to offer them a solution to their problem. You can only offer a good solution if you know exactly what your customers' expectations are. This shows them that you are taking an active approach in offering them satisfaction. It also gives you some guidelines. It's wonderful if you can fulfill their expectations precisely. If not, your only other option is to compromise and find a solution that both parties can live with. Handling customer service and support can be grueling. That is why you need a well-trained individual to handle these issues for you. Customers want to talk, chat, email, etc with someone who is an active expert in your product and services. Instead of placing people on hold, or having to ask you a lot of questions, the customer service rep should be knowledgeable and able to answer your customers' questions right away. Having experts in both customer service and your offerings will put your customers at ease and, potentially, save you time while helping you make more money.
