Remodeling Your House-Modern Window Shutters

Those wooden window shutters were once the coolest accessory that a house can have. But they were very high-maintenance and required close attention in order to keep them looking good and operating properly. Upgrading to those new design shutters will not only give your house a modern look but may also provide you with virtually maintenance-free shutters. These new shutters are tough and can face even the harshest weather while still retaining its characteristic beauty for many years.

Vinyl shutters are the last word in window treatments:

Why, because they are made to last for decades and they clean easily. Unlike wooden shutters for your windows, these vinyl shutters will not need to be replaced, repaired or painted. There is almost no weight to the shutters yet they look like the traditional heavy wood shutters. They come ready to paint when you get them so you can easily customize them to match your home.

What are the available choices?

The composite shutter is the most budget-friendly option. They are called composite because they are made from a combination of different materials designed to go together in order to come up with a better material which would be resilient against the elements. Particleboards are compressed into molds so that you can choose from a variety of designs: the louvered, batten, raised panel and board styles. They come with a hinge and opens or closes much like the traditional wooden shutters.

A slightly more expensive albeit very popular choice are the window shutters made from fiberglass. Their designs are similar to those of the vinyl shutters as they come from pretty much the same mold. Fiberglass is a much tougher material than particleboards hence they last for about twenty years, which is quite a good investment. If you are in an area that gets hit by severe storms like hurricanes, this is the best choice because this will not leave the home no matter what elements they face. These are available in many textures and colors or you can also purchase them ready to paint to customize for your home.

But the most versatile option is probably the aluminum shutters. They are offered in a dizzying array of colors, textures and styles, including the faux colonial louvered variety. Despite being popular however, they only come with a relatively short three-year warranty. This is because they are just not expected to hold up much against extreme weather conditions. They are made to look like the real thing, wood, but they have a finish that just does not hold up to the comparison.

If you must prefer, the traditional wooden shutters are still presently available for dressing your windows. Just remember that they are high-maintenance, doesn't stand up too well against the elements, and weather-proofing them is very expensive. After weighing all the pros and cons of the available options, the ultimate choice is now up to you.
