Your home security system can either be expensive or inexpensive, but regardless of its worth, it normally functions around similar ideas. You will find DIY kits that you can set up on your own, and there are very progressive sets that will need the help of experts. They can reach your property's entire perimeter, or they can be focusing on just the entry points. But most definitely, the basics are still similar.
One of the basic ideas used in an alarm system is the electric powered outlet. Remember that electricity functions when two opposite charges form a connection between them. In security systems, this concept is used too. It can be set up on windows, doors, or other similar entry point. Basically, when the path between the two charges are obstructed, the alarm is activated.
Motion sensors are also very common in security systems. This is because electric circuits are only good for entry and exit points, but won't give you any warning where the trespasser may be. Motion sensors does that for you. A movement detector can be radar-based, where sound waves or microwave radio energy is released from one point of the room, and activates the alarm when the pattern of the wave is obstructed. It can also use a photo sensor, in which a laser beam is produced between two sensors and triggers the alarm when it is obstructed. Passive Infrared movement sensors are applied to more progressive forms, where the alarm is activated when a large source of heat such as a human being enters the area.
When a trespasser is detected, there are actually different ways in which an alarm may respond. They can let out a deafening noise, flash outdoor lights, or activate an automated dialer. Loud noise and flashing lights can alert not only you and your family regarding the intrusion, but they can also alert the neighbors too. It is also a very good way for the law enforcement to pinpoint which house the alarm is originating from. The automated dialer will call up a main command device, who will then call up the law enforcement and inform them regarding the intrusion.
Most of these different ideas can be tweaked a little depending on the reach of the alarm system. But at the end of the day, it will do the same job of securing you and your family from any threat.
