A mixture of general education and clinical training will be known when starting a nursing career.

How are the roles of nursing categorized?

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) consist of those with a master's or doctorate with a RN certification. Nurses in advanced studies wish to obtain as much knowledge and education as possible in their career field. Nurses are categorized by the fields they work in. For instance, the pediatric nurse is a specialist in the health of children or the geriatrics nurse specializes in the care of elders.

Some fields of specialization for nurses may be OB/GYN, surgery and gastroenterology.
Different locations of practice depend on the nursing career field including flight, school and hospice nurses. The ER, or emergency room is also a very popular category for nursing as well as the OR, the operating room or the NICU, neonatology intensive care unit.

Education requirements become more advanced as nurses become specialized. Nursing requires a large investment of money and time in education and it is important to have a passion for the medical field before becoming certified.
